Distressed Patriots self-adhesive stamps are a great way to Spread the Distress when used on all snail mail envelopes; especially those to your elected officials in Washington, DC and your state capital! Put them next to USPS stamps, or on the back. Stick them on all those prepaid junk mail envelopes and send them back to the sender. Get creative about how you use the stamps to Spread the Distress. In fact, keep a roll handy as you will probably see and think of a whole lot of places where you can leave these little stickers. Many people have asked if it is legal to put Distressed Patriot stamps on US Currency. While US currency is used in such a way for political protesting as well as advertising, Distressed Patriots DOES NOT encourage or condone the use of their Stamps for such potentially illegal purposes. The Treasury Department does not approve using currency to promote slogans and advertisements and defacement of currency in such a way that it is made unfit for circulation comes under the jurisdiction of the United States Secret Service. It is prohibited by Title 18, Section 475 of the UNITED STATES CODE, which defines currency defacement as follows: "Whoever mutilates, cuts, defaces, disfigures, or perforates, or unites or cements together, or does any other thing to any bank bill, draft, note, or other evidence of debt issued by any national banking association, or Federal Reserve bank, or the Federal Reserve System, with intent to render such bank bill, draft, note, or other evidence of debt unfit to be reissued, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than six months, or both." Under advice of legal counsel, we have been advised not to pull on the man from Krypton's cape lest we want to encourage (which we do not) a visit from the United States Secret Service that is responsible for investigating defaced currency.
